For those of you who have seen Chasing Nicolette, you know Kate is ridiculously funny. She plays the Nun in this new musical—and it’s no secret she’s got a flare for comedy!

Before making her way to a number of Seattle stages, Kate graduated from Whitworth University with degrees in Theatre and Communications—smart girl! She has been living in Seattle for about five years and decided just a few short years ago to start actively pursuing more musical theatre roles. In the meantime, she has been earning a living by teaching drama and improvisation, something she’s been working at for 10 years. Today she teaches at Seattle Children’s Theatre and Youth Theatre Northwest.
Many folks may recognize Kate from her work at Jet City Improv. She has been performing with them for over five years now. When asked about this experience, Kate comments, “I love the freedom of improv. Working with a tight knit ensemble like Jet City is amazing. The immediacy of the performances is such a thrill and I love how integral the audience is to the process. Some of my favorite improv performances have revolved around improvised musicals. I have done several full-length improvised musicals in the past few years. Most recently I was in the shows Lease and Lovetanic. Lease was an improvised rock opera based on Rent. Lovetanic was a musical that was a cross between Loveboat and Titanic. Each of these productions were fully improvised from the melodies to the harmonies and were amazing experiences!”

Always actively involved in the musical theatre scene, Kate’s work has been seen at Seattle Musical Theatre where she played Yente in Fiddler on the Roof, the Sour Kangaroo in Suessical the Musical, and the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. Last year, she played opposite Village Theatre favorite Cayman Ilika (Julie in Show Boat) in Centerstage Theatre’s production of Always…Patsy Cline.

Kate co-runs a production company called RK Productions. This company produced Seattle’s premiere of Reefer Madness: the Musical. “I directed and acted in the musical and it was one of the most satisfying productions I’ve ever gotten to do! After our initial production we were able to remount at the Seattle Rep and even got to perform at last year’s Bumbershoot,” Kate recounts.

Kate’s first Village Theatre appearance came this past summer; she was a member of the Route 66 cast at the Festival of New Musicals, and she couldn’t be more excited to be on the Mainstage now in Chasing Nicolette.

“I am constantly amazed by the talents of my fellow cast and the production crew. It was an incredible rehearsal process and I loved being able to work so closely with David and Peter [authors]. I am in love with this musical and am so proud to be able to perform it night after night. The music is incredible and it is side-splittingly funny! We had a laughter filled rehearsal process and everyone at Village has made me feel welcomed and supported.” –Kate Jaeger
