Fourteen weeks ago I packed up all of my belongings and came to Issaquah to embark on a new chapter in this journey we call life! I was filled with so much anxiety and tad bit of fear of the unknown. I looked forward to the work that lay ahead and couldn’t wait to meet the cast of AIDA! Coming from Los Angeles, my first impression of Issaquah was “I’m not in Kansas anymore.” But I quickly embraced the charm and slower paced lifestyle that Issaquah had to offer. I met my new family (the Cast), quickly began rehearsals, and the race was on.
Working with Steve [Tomkins] and Brian [Yorkey] was a breath of fresh air. Having two directors could have been a nightmare — but it was great! They allowed us to have input in the creative process and to find our characters for ourselves. Many times directors don’t allow you the opportunity to give input and discuss how you feel about a character’s direction; however we formed a beautiful give and take relationship. AIDA is a show filled with many highs and lows; it’s an emotional rollercoaster! So needless to say, rehearsals were intense and filled with many, many emotions and high stakes. There was laughter and many tears. I remember being exhausted mentally and physically and thinking how am I going to get through this every night seven shows a week for eleven weeks. All I can tell you is my faith in God has been a huge factor! Performing with such a talented cast has been a real treat. Veterans Bob De Dea, Terrence Kelley, and Jim Orr (who all play fathers) have been incredible and supportive the entire way. Much like a father would be. Ryah and Trent are incredibly talented and I look forward to hearing about the fabulous things that life has in store for them!
Michael, who plays “Radames,” has been amazing to work with. He’s been my rock, my brother, my friend, and I’m thankful our paths have crossed. The ensemble consists of a beautiful and incredibly talented group all destined to take theatre by storm. An actor/actress is a storyteller, and I hope that the cast and I have successfully shared with you a beautiful love story for all to enjoy. We have one more week in Everett, so come on out and visit with us. You won’t be disappointed!
